FIRST ANNUAL event held at the Historical "Maumee Indoor Theatre" in downtown Maumee, Ohio.   The 2006 musical group was the world famous CAKEWALKIN' JASS BAND. The Cakewalkin’ Jass Band has a strong reputation for traditional jazz in the Toledo area and has performed at festivals and events throughout the United States and Canada, including Chicago, Sacramento, San Diego, Toronto, Detroit and Washington.

The Maumee Valley Chef's Association took charge of the Grand Jazz Grazing stations with hot & cold hors d'oeuvres, cheese and sweets station.   The first "Jazz in the Pass" was held on May 8, 1999 in Pass Christian as a contribution to the Pass Tri-Centennial celebration.  The festival has grown each year with the potential of becoming a major event.  Join us in Toledo as we start our tradition of "Jazz FOR the Pass" to rebuild the Pass Christian Memorial Park...One Brick at a Time!    Info@JazzFORthePass.org

HOW IT ALL BEGAN...

The "Jazz FOR the Pass" story begins with Chef Johnny & Jacki, now of Toledo, Ohio, and their love for Pass Christian, Mississippi.  In the late 90's, Johnny & Jacki moved  from Southwest Michigan to the Pass and quickly fell in love with its people and its beauty.  Several years later they moved back North for family reasons.  When Katrina hit the coast with all its fury in August of 2005, it destroyed most of what was in its path. Johnny and Jacki were emotionally torn as they saw the cities and towns they loved so much be destroyed.  Their home in the Pass and the pier where they were married are nothing but memories.  Their beloved Pass had been 90% destroyed!  Chef Johnny told his story to his fellow members of ACF Maumee Valley Chef's Association in Toledo.  They responded to his plea for help,  John E. Clark CEC aka: Chef Johnny,  and the MVCA agreed to adopt the Memorial Park in the Pass.  The Memorial Park was the heartbeat of the community where so many events were held.  One such event was the annual "Jazz IN the Pass".  Thus the birth of the first annual "Jazz FOR the Pass" will be held in Northwest Ohio for the benefit of raising funds for the rebuilding of the Memorial Park in Pass Christian, Mississippi.

Hurricane Katrina 2005 destroyed the Memorial Park and the Grand Gazebo that was considered the "Hallmark of the Pass"Memorial Park before Katrina.   Contact Chef Johnny & Jacki
